United We Stand

I had the extreme honor of providing the invocation prayer for the VETFEST (Hampton Roads Veteran & Patriot Appreciation Day) gathering in the Virginia Beach Convention Center, today, 16 October 2021.

As a member of the American Veterans Vote organization, this event was to encourage veterans to vote but more importantly to support the following candidates for Governor, LT. Governor and AG: Youngkin, Sears, and Miyares.

I thought I would include a transcript:

Psalm 133:1 says : "How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity."

Well, unlike what the Psalmist said, there are others who seek to divide…we've all seen it...they are willfully creating chaos. Separating us by gender, race, rich, poor, young, old, vax, anti-vax, educator, parent. But look around! You all look beautiful…this is a GOOD and PLEASANT occasion! And we are UNITED!

You see, we remember our founding, and in our Constitution, our purpose was clearly stated, as "we the people, in order to form a more perfect Union." And we Declared that the root of that purpose as self-evident in our inalienable rights, endowed by our Creator, as "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." And that is what we are about!

So will you pray with me?  2 Chron 7:14 says, "if my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Almighty and all-powerful Creator Lord, we come to You, confessing our sins, and asking You to heal our land. We are facing a mighty foe, but You Lord have the power to vanquish any foe, to right any wrong. So we humbly seek You and ask for healing. We ask that You look upon these candidates with favor, that You provide them with wisdom to lead, and that You impart right thinking on the citizens of Virginia who will elect our state leadership.  It is for all these things we pray, Amen and Amen.

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness…” Focusing on LIFE

Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness…” Focusing on LIFE:

I was intrigued by recent Texas SB8 which bans abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, and our nation’s reaction to that measure…

King David, the author of most of the Psalms wrote: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Of course, we know the “You” David spoke of was and is God.

The Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-212) is also named as Laci and Conner’s Law after Laci and her unborn son, Conner were killed by her husband Scott Peterson. Scott was convicted of double homicide. That law recognizes an embryo or fetus in utero as a legal victim if they are injured or killed during the commission of any of over 60 listed federal crimes of violence. That law does not even require proof that the perpetrator knew the mother was pregnant!

The law does make the exception of abortion with the consent of the mother. But one may ask why? Who is speaking on behalf of the in utero victim?

Sir William Blackstone (1723-1780) wrote: “Life is the immediate gift of God—a right inherent by nature in every individual; and it begins in contemplation of law as soon as an infant is able to stir in their mother’s womb.” In Europe, during the time of the Founders, the belief was that the parents gave life to the child, not The Lord…

As we continue in our efforts to form that "perfect union" we really need to reflect on our beginnings, and THE beginning, as well as THE end...

I have written short thoughts for church and other organizations over the years...I'm going to publish them here for those who may stop by.

Many Blessings!
